Why a garden journal beats memory
Memory rewrites itself every season. You will swear the tomatoes ripened earlier last year, that the deer pressure was lighter, that those purple cosmos came back from seed every year. Almost always, written records show otherwise.
What to log, at minimum:
- What you planted and where - varieties, supplier, position in the bed
- Date of first/last frost in your yard - your microclimate often differs from the regional average by 2 weeks
- First and last harvest dates for each crop
- Pests and diseases you saw - when, on what plant, what you did
- Weather notes - heat waves, drought weeks, late frost dates, hailstorms
- What worked and what failed - so you know next year
Export the CSV at the end of each season and start fresh. Three years of records and you have your own private growing database for your microclimate.
All data here is stored only in your browser's localStorage. Clearing your browser data, switching browsers, or using a different device will not show your entries. Export to CSV if you want to keep them long-term.
