Why a zone band approach

USDA hardiness zones (and microclimates within them) drive every garden decision in June: when tomatoes can safely transplant, when crabgrass will germinate, when broccoli will bolt. Most "what to plant this month" lists collapse the US into one timeline. This one does not. Three zone bands, each with its own task list.
